It's been nearly four decades since its release, and John Carpenter's The Thing remains one of the most untouchably gruesome and great horror films of all time. As famous as it is for its legendary creature designs, it's also famous for its ending, which leaves plenty of unanswered questions.

Idk. I am not understanding why the ending needs to be 'explained'.

This video may be useful to those who have never seen the movie, but is otherwise is useless.

I would love to pitch a sequel idea to Hollywood. Also the thing is clearly child’s his clothes are not the same clothes he was wearing before he ran off to find Blaire and the music plays when he drinks from the bottle then mCcready starts laughing the answer is literally in front of our faces we just want to jump into other conclusions.

Anyone who was a real fan of 'The Thing' played the Xbox game back in 2002, way before the film prequel. The answer is revealed in the game, problem solved. Good game too.

I always thought the movie's poster where it shows a man in ice, looking as if he's screaming, having the snow seemingly brushed off and having been frozen was Mac and therefore it was he who was 'The Thing' by the end.

The ending was intentionally ambiguous so geeks could argue about it.

The Thing ps2 game is a sequel to the movie, and it explained that it was Childs that was infected. The game dev's already knew about the light/no light effect in the eyes of who isnt and is infected respectively. Didnt need this vid to know that.

Looper: Like that kid that didn't do his homework so waffles and drags through an excruciatingly pointless presentation that answers nothing...

Actually there have been comics and even a video game and it was neither of them until Childs was infected at a much later date...

It was resolved in a comicbook. Thing from Another World. It was Childs, who was The Thing. Mac was the hero once more on a sub, that rescued them. It's a Dark Horse comic book.

There's a great short story written from the POV of the creature out there. Blair is infected early, probably when he's examining the Dog-Thing's charred corpse (watch the pencil!).
I don't agree with all of it tho (I think Childs AND Mac are both human at the end).

The Thing (1982) is a masterpiece horror sci/fi film and of the best horror films ever and is one of my favorites. It still holds up today really well and is better than a lot of modern CGI visual effects movies because mostly all the effects in this were practical and felt very tangible especially when they are doing the autopsy of the alien creature which is really gross also the atmosphere of this film is really suspenseful.

"Fire can destroy most things, but it can't eliminate every last drop of blood."
er, yes. Yes it can. Fire destroys EVERYTHING.
why do you think the only way hospitals dealt with the AIDS pandemic was to burn everything?
if your disease is blood-borne, then incineration is the only way to be 100% certain of destruction.
really unimpressed with that statement.

When he left his shack yesterday MacReady turned the lights off. What did he find up there all alone...a burglar? No it was Blair and thus Mac's the new dingus. =P
